King's Cross: St Pancras train station evacuation in London as incident sparks chaos

Emergency services are dealing with an incident at London St Pancras as the area is evacuated. Transport for London (TfL) Access confirmed that the main and north entrances to the station were closed while the Metropolitan Police dealt with an unattended vehicle.

The rest of the station is fully operational while this is being carried out. TfL Access wrote on X: "Main and North Entrance/Entry closed due to an unattended vehicle at the request of Metropolitan Police. Station remains in full operation."

The Metropolitan Police said it carried out a controlled explosion during the incident near St Pancras, and the unattended vehicle has since been declared non-suspicious.

No service on Piccadilly Line

Separately, there is no service on the Piccadilly Line today, tomorrow, and Thursday between Cockfosters and Uxbridge, impacting St Pancras. Trains will continue to operate between Acton Town and Heathrow.

Travellers have been urged to use Metropolitan Line services between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge and District Line trains between South Kensington and Ealing Common. 

Trains running on time

The online departure board for St Pancras shows almost all trains running on time, except the 4.16pm to Peterborough and the 4.21pm to Brighton, which are both three minutes late.

EMR services resuming

EMR said there is now good service on trains from St Pancras to Sheffield, Nottingham, and Corby.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed a controlled explosion was carried out during the incident near St Pancras, and the unattended vehicle has since been declared non-suspicious.

The map from East Midlands Railway (EMR) shows significant disruption across the network, including between St Pancras and Corby, Leicester, Derby, and Sheffield.

Alternative routes to Leicester

You may travel to Nuneaton with Cross Country, then change for a train to London Euston with Avanti or London Northwestern Railway. It is likely to take two hours to complete this journey. 

Alternative routes to Nottingham

You may travel to Grantham with EMR, then change for a train to London King's Cross. It is likely to take between two and 2.5 hours to complete this journey.

LNER, which runs trains between Grantham and London King's Cross, recommends booking a seat. This can be done up to five minutes before the train departs.

Alternative routes to Derby and Chesterfield

You may travel to Birmingham New Street with Cross Country, then change for a train to London Euston with London Northwestern Railway or Avanti. It is likely to take between 2.5 and three hours to complete this journey. 

Delays up to 30 minutes

East Midlands Railway services to and from London St Pancras may be subject to short-notice delays of up to 30 minutes or cancellations.

A video shared on social media captured the aftermath of the evacuation, with passengers standing outside the station next to a police cordon. A police van can also be seen.

TfL Access said the station was evacuated while police dealt with an unattended vehicle. 

Passengers allowed back in

EMR said in an update on its website: "Emergency services are on site investigate the problem, we have now been advertised that it is safe for customers to re-enter the station."

This comes after the TfL Access account on X said the station is fully operational while police deal with an unattended vehicle, and the two exits that had been closed have now reopened.

        I really really hope the king of the north doesn't park inappropriately on his tour, it could end up as a GE then what shall we do? Of course it may be just a fine if he parks in a bus lane unless his Manchester pal steps in
